Candle Safety Tips

Posted on August 30 2016

LoveSpoon Candles believes in bringing happiness to our customers through our candles. Unlike many of the other paraffin wax candles on the market today, our eco-friendly, soy wax candles are handmade, just for you. We believe that every candle—even one you buy for yourself—is an incredibly unique and special gift.

Candles can, however, be dangerous, and when you burn your LoveSpoon Candle we want to make sure you’re taking every precaution necessary. After all, you won’t find toxic chemicals emitting from your soy candle, but without the proper amount of care and attention, you could have an accident. Here are some tips to burn your candles safely and make the best memories possible with them.

Place Your LoveSpoon Candle On Something Sturdy

If you have a wobbling table or sliding papers on your desk, do not place your candle on top of these. As you might guess, these types of locations are easy for your candle to fall off, possibly hurting someone and/or creating a mess. Even though soy wax is water-soluble and easy to clean, it’s much better to be safe than sorry.

Make Sure Your LoveSpoon Candle Is Unobstructed

You might be tempted to push your candle close to the wall, right next to a vase of large flowers, or even on a lower shelf of your bookshelf, but please look for another more open area. To burn your candle safely, keep it at least 12 inches away from anything else, and don’t have anything hovering above it. A candle may seem like a very small flame, but it is still a fire that can cause other objects to catch fire, too. Keep the area around your LoveSpoon Candle clear.

Take Care When Lighting Your LoveSpoon Candle

Beware of any loose clothing or strands of hair when lighting your candle. Make sure that you keep these clear from the flame.

Monitor Children And Pets

Luckily, LoveSpoon Candles are made of soy wax, which burns at a much lower temperature than paraffin wax. Still, make sure that you monitor your children and pets when you have candles lit. The flame is still hot and can hurt them, so it’s best to put the candles in a place they simply cannot reach at all.

Blow Out All Candles When You Leave The Room

Yes, even if you just leave the room momentarily to go to the bathroom or check on something in the kitchen, you should blow out your candles. A lot can happen in a short amount of time, and if you aren’t in the room to notice any issues, you could quickly have a big problem on your hands.

Never Sleep With Candles Lit

The second that you start to feel sleepy, it’s time to blow out candles. LoveSpoon Candles are certainly a romantic addition to the bedroom, but candles should never, ever be left to burn overnight. We understand that they smell great and create an amazing atmosphere, but use them as a way to set the mood for the evening and blow them out well before you lay your head down for the night.
